How To Fix 'Windows Update' Error 0X80246017 In Windows 10

This Windows Update error can be solved in many cases by restarting your Windows 10 operating system  and click on 'Check for update' tab at the Settings(the modern Settings that is gradually replacing the classic Control Panel we are used to in old Windows versions).

At times the error refuses to go away even after restarting your system. In that situation there is need to quickly make some changes to the registry and forestall the error once and for all. That is when this simple guide becomes useful for the process.

Windows Update error 0X80246017 usually comes up during upgrade and that simply makes it a system upgrade error.

STEP 1: Press Windows Key + R to open 'Run' dialog.

STEP 2: Type or copy and paste  Regedit  into 'Run' and click on 'OK' tab to continue.

STEP 3: Double-click on  'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' to expand it .

STEP 4: Expand  'SOFTWARE' by double-click on it.

STEP 5: Next double-click on 'Microsoft ' to expand it.

STEP 6: Expand 'WindowsSelfHost' by double-click on it.

STEP 7: Click on 'Applicability' to display information to the right-hand side of the Registry editor.

STEP 8: Right-click on 'ThresholdRiskLevel' and select 'Modify...'. Under 'Value data' type in low(if it is not written there already).

STEP 9: Look for 'ThresholdOptedIn' , right-click on it and select 'Modify...'. Next change the 'Value data' to 1.

STEP 10: Locate 'ThresholdInternal', right-click on it and select 'Delete' to remove it. Sometimes it might no be available on your system Registry editor. 

After finishing with the procedures above you can close the Registry editor and restart your system for changes to take effect.
